Crivvie Lights
Acrylic on canvas board, 7x5 inches. A small piece painted for a special birthday as a reminder of a beloved childhood holiday destination. The lady in question was delighted with her gift.
Afternoon Break
This piece was close to my heart, of a special coastal town where a happy childhood was spent. Commissioned by one friend as a leaving gift for another close friend who was moving to Germany. Acrylic on canvas board, 10cm x 10cm. Easily a favourite piece of mine, and with so much meaning for all three of us, the painter, the giver, and the leaver.
Culross Jetty
So many people have fond memories of Fife and its coastal havens. Culross is one such gem and people love mementos of its regularly sunny shores. This 10cm x 10cm Acrylic on canvas board painting was a 40th birthday present commissioned and gifted to a Scot who has relocated to Lancashire, and now lives happily in a beautiful home in Lancaster. Since painting this 3 years ago, much repair work has been carried out and the jetty is now a usable pier, and work continues on the old harbour wall at its far end.
The Gauldrons, Macrahanish
Commissioned as a gift for an 85th birthday present, this scene of the Gauldrons at Macrahanish was a joy to paint. Completed in Acrylics from a photograph taken by the gifter, this was a place of great sentiment for them and their recipient who used to swim there as a young girl. I had the good fortune of visiting Macrahanish a few years ago with some of my plein air chums so I had a real sense of the place and the grandeur the area holds, and was able to transfer those feelings in to the painting. It's such a privilege to be asked to do such a piece, and the birthday girl was delighted.
A Quail for a Quail
This little Quail in oil pastel, measuring 8x8 inches was a gentleman's retirement gift to himself. He'd always wanted a painting of a Quail as it was his surname, and he became very emotional at the reveal, and exclaimed he wished he hadn't waited so many years to have one commissioned. Some projects just really make your heart grow two sizes bigger!
